There are HJS products available for cars and commercial vehicles, but also for industrial engines and off-highway applications. In this case, as well as market standard ceramics, HJS also uses in-house sintered metal technology. It is vital that the correct diesel particulate filter system (DPF) is selected for short term use. These applications can be retrofitted with the HJS SMF® ER system in order to remove harmful soot particles from the exhaust. The SMF® ER system is characterised by its easy installation and removal from the machine thanks to its quick release clamps. The SMF® ER offers several advantages to machine operators as it provides an economical solution for equipping an entire fleet of similar construction machines. HJS provides a range of baseplates that can be installed to each machine of equipment which enables a single filter to be used across a range of machines. The regeneration requirements of the filter are displayed via a simple to read gauge and the filter can be removed and cleaned on the operator’s site.


Technology and functioning method
After connection of the flexible hose to the existing exhaust gas system, the exhaust gas is filtered in on-going operation for so long until the limit value is reached, as indicated by the attached pressure gauge. The filter module is pulled out by opening the quick-action locks and cleaned externally. As a result of the modular structure, the system can be mounted or replaced simply on every machine.

HJS filter systems are based on filter modules which are manufactured from ceramic materials. They are often used where no large ash quantities occur. These filter systems can generally replace the original acoustic damper in the area of retrofitting and can be adapted individually to the machines and to stationary applications.

These filter systems require no additional regeneration aids, additives or interventions in the engine management. Over the HJS service unit, the respective operating state and cleaning requirement of the filter system can be read off at any time.


The HJS ceramic filter system is also mainly suited for commercial vehicles and buses, however, for off-highway applications, as well as in combination with an SCR. HJS has specially developed a Diesel Particle Filter from Sintered Metal (Sintered Metal Filter SMF®) to reduce soot particles and eliminate diesel exhaust gases, and received the German Environmental Prize for it.

For the reduction of the gaseous pollutants, in combination with the diesel particle filter, jointly with the project partners Daimler and JohnsonMatthey, HJS has developed the SCRT® system (Selective Catalytic Reduction Trap). With this modular structured system, nitrogen oxides are also removed almost completely from the diesel exhaust gases.



Area of application
The SCRT®system is used both in the private car and commercial vehicle sectors, and is the leading system architecture with vehicles of generation Euro VI/ 6 or EPA 2010 when it involves clean exhaust gases. In addition, at the latest from 2019, Stage V will also be standard on a lot of off-road diesel engines, i.e., for example, in use on construction machines, mining machinery, as well as agricultural and forestry machines.

This technology is also used for fixed-in-place engines or railways, and shipping. HJS SCRT® systems are available both for application in the original equipment and for retrofit.
